Discussion
A ranula is a post-inflammatory cyst of the sublingual glands or minor salivary glands. Simple ranulas are confined to the sublingual space. If the simple ranula extends below the mylohyoid muscle (the mylohyoid muscle divides the floor of the mouth into the sublingual and submandibular spaces) it is referred to a plunging or diving ranula.
